Our Purpose
House of Living Heritage exists to strengthen living heritage systems shaped by the Himalayan Silk Route continuum and the communities that sustain them. We believe heritage survives not by being preserved in isolation, but by remaining lived, adaptive, and economically viable. Across mountain landscapes and historic exchange corridors, traditions in craft, food, music, architecture, and ecological knowledge evolved through movement, trade, and intergenerational transmission. Today, many of these systems face fragmentation under migration, climate shifts, and changing economic realities.
HLH responds by building structure around continuity.
Our Vision
We envision enduring cultural institutions and experiences where living heritage can travel across landscapes, generations, and contemporary life while remaining deeply rooted in people, place, and inherited knowledge.
We see heritage not as static memory, but as living infrastructure capable of connecting dispersed communities, strengthening creative economies, and fostering shared understanding across borders.
Our Mission
Our mission is to strengthen and carry forward living heritage through long-term cultural platforms that integrate documentation, creative economies, cultural landscapes, archives, and heritage-led experiences.
We work alongside communities as partners, ensuring that intergenerational knowledge remains active, that artisans and knowledge holders retain dignity and agency, and that cultural work generates shared and sustainable value.
Rather than freezing tradition in time, we create systems where it can evolve with integrity allowing future generations to inherit living cultures they can adapt, interpret, and carry forward.
